These images, such as the ones below that I found, include photos from inside the body, other artists 3d renderings of the body, but the majority are photos taken through microscopes of the real thing.

I also found some great diagrams showing the insides of the lungs, stomach and other organs that I researched and wanted to create, in two great textbooks. One of them was Biology, 7th Edition, by Cambell and Reece. The other was Principals of Anatomy and Physiology by Tortora Grabowski. They helped me get an idea of how the organs work and the actual physical appearance, textures and layout of the inside of the organs.

I used scientific textbooks as I wanted the game that I create to be accurate. I wanted to have the correct virus's and bacteria effecting the correct organs, and in a genuine way. Although I intended to personalize the creatures myself, I wanted them to remain recognizable and a representation of their real life counterparts. I wanted to find out how we kill those bacteria in real life, and how they get into the body in the first place. I also needed to research the different ways in which the organs are connected, as I wanted to have the organs as levels in my game, and have the links between them to be accurate.

I consequently chose the lungs and the stomach to be the first two levels of my game. The lungs because of the beatiful aveoli, and the stomach because of the lovely natural bumpy texture and folds in the walls of the stomach lining. The organisms that will be effecting the lungs are tb, and bronchitus, the stomach will be infected by worms and perhaphs a few other things I have not decided upon. As malaria is an interesting looking virus, I intend to incorporate it somewhere as well.

As far as how my organism or hero will enter the human body, he can either be swallowed as as an antibiotic, injected as an antibiotic, or possible inhaled. I decided I would like him to be ingested,and start his battles again the dangerous beings in the human body in the stomach. Once he has conquered all the dangerous entities there, he will be absorbed into through the lining of the stomach, along with all the other nutrients, and will travel through the blood stream to the lung. Once he is in the he will once more battle anything evil that is trying to harm the lungs before he will be able to be absorbed into the veins covering the alveoli along with the oxygen. The way in which he travels from the stomach to the lung, will be via the blood stream which containing, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. I have created a fly through of a vein to represent this journey and the transition between levels.

Project 3 Proposal

I propose the creation of an adventure roll-playing game based in the ancient world of Greece. The game would be based on the Journey of Odysseus back to Ithaca.

In the game you will be playing the character of Odysseus, and will need to follow a certain route in order to return home. Along the way you will need to solve certain mysteries, collect certain items, and fight against certain mythical creatures and even gods who are trying to stand in your way to reach home.

Therefore this game will be an interesting mix of problem solving, exploration, finding certain items, and fighting. At the same time the player will gain knowledge and insight into the ancient Greek world.

Certain objects that you will be able to collect will enable you to bargain with other characters in order to progress further in the game. Others will help you to fight better, and certain items that the gods have lost or left behind, you will be able to use to take on certain abilites that the gods have. Finding the lighting bolts of Zeus, or finding an object that will enable you to turn into a swan like Zeus and fly from place to place will greatly add to the adventure of the game. Being able to turn into other creatures will also make the game more interesting, as you will be able to navigate by land, air or sea, and thus you will experience the world from numerous points of view.

Info about my creature

My creature is called a Radiolarian, and lives in the Indian Ocean. I found out about him by reading a textbook called "Mircrobiology Principles and Explorations" by Jacquelyn G.Black. I did further research on the internet and found numersous images of other viruses and Fungi, but decided upon the Radiolarian for my character. These creatures produce intricate mineral skeletons and are found as zooplankton throughout the ocean. When the radiolarian dies, it's shell sinks to the bottom, and the ocean floor is covered in millions of these skeletons.

I have taken an original photography of one of the types of Radiolarians, and altered it slightly. My ultimate creature will way less than 10grams, just as its real life counterpart does, but it will have transparent legs and possibly scales or fur on its main body. It will have 6 legs instead of 8 like the real life version, but will still have 3 toes on the end of each leg.

When I begin to develop an environment for the creature however, it will take on a new personality. It will live in the human body and live to cause respiratory disease in humans. It will wonder the hallways that are the blood stream and the lungs of humans, and try to take over the respiratory system. By changing the Larians natural environment to that of a virus, I will be able to create a far more interesting and beautiful environment for it to live it.

My photoshop decided it would no longer save anything in the gif format, so the pics that needed a transparent background are pings, will that be ok? If not I will come in to uni and use that photoshop to convert to gifs. Wasn't sure if jpegs or bmp were best for the other images, there is a mix of both. If the game were to be completed, there would be numerous more locations to visit. There would also be numerous animations embedded withing the movie clips, so that when the player roles over objects in the game, certain animations will happen. Games will also open up when the user clicks on certain objects at each location. Once the user has completed these games, they will find out which is the next location they need to visit, and will be that much closer to find out and stop the evil villain.

I created these graphics by importing objects into 3dmax. I then found textures for them. I exported these objects and imported them into unreal tournament. I created a 3d level, and took numerous screenshots throughout the level to create the feel of a 3d adventure game in flash. I then took these screenshots and stitched them together using photostich. I took these panaramas and embedded them into flash.

So far what I have done for the project is find a 3d engine called flash sandy. Details about it, and the sandy library are available at www.flashsandy.org.

I also found a great site http://www.tonypa.pri.ee/tbw/ which is a great source for learning about tile based games.

During the holidays I spent time going through the tutorials on these sites. We also met twice to finish our brief for project 3. After we finished the brief Silas typed everthying we had all decided up, I have proof red it and added a little more to it.

I am now in the process of searching for some music for our game, looking for some characters and scenery we could use for the game, and trying to combine the following two pieces of code I found. The one deals with an isometric 3d tile game with a moving character, and the other deals with a rotating 3d cube. The isometric 3d games is available at http://www.tonypa.pri.ee/tbw/tut16.html while the rotating cube is available through a link under the extras heading at http://www.flashsandy.org/tutorials/

Dr Brain's Island

1.Opening sequence, shot of the entire island.

4.Upon completely the first puzzle, you see the lab through the opening. You then click upon the doorway, and the screen image changes into this laboratory.
5.Upon clicking upon one of the machines in the room, a window pops up with this game in it.

Thus scene is gradually introduced, from full island view, to the shore of the island, to a view of the science lab, to a full view of the science lab.

Project 3-My game visuals, and interaction between locations

The main page will will act as a portal to the other locations in the game. The main page will be a globe(which might rotate if clicked). Although the graphics will be 2D, I will do my best to make the globe appear 3D.

Upon clicking on one of the number locations (possibly 10 in total) you will enter into another movie clip or environment. Each locations will portray a very different location in the world, and have a different atmosphere. Once again, the room, or outside location, or wherever you have landed up in the world, will be drawn in 2D graphics, but I will attempt to create depth and realism by creating the backdrops in isometric.

One may click on various objects and certian animations will occur. When clicking on certain objects however, a new window may pop up. This new window will hold a game, and this will be my puzzle view. The puzzle view will hold an interactive puzzle game, enlarged to fill most of the screen. Upon completion of each puzzle game, you will be give a clue as to the villains identity or location, and you will be told which location on the globe you must go to next.

You will click on the globe icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. You will be returned to the main page with the virtual globe. You can then scroll over the rest of the other locations on the globe, and upon finding your next location, you can click on that location and will be transported to the new scene.

On clicking on the new location, an animation will occur, where either a plain, boat, car or train will drive/fly to your location, pick you up and drop you off at your new location. Once you are at the new location, a new movie clip will open, and you will find yourself in a new scene, where there will be new things to click on, and another puzzle to solve.

In the end of the game you will go to the location of the evil mastermind, and defeat a final puzzle, thus ruining his final planning, and putting an end to his reign off terror conducted through the internet.

Project 3-Proposal-Game environment and plot

The virtual world I create will literally be a virtual globe. You can travel from location to location upon the globe, by clicking on the different locations. The image to the left is Neopia from Neopets and my inspiration.

The story behind the game is the following. There is an evil villain out there somewhere in the world who is stealing peoples money through the internet, sending viruses into peoples computers, being evil to children and people on the internet, and he is slowly planning to take over the world via the world wide web. It is you, the players job to track him down and to stop him.

The villain thinks he is smarter than everyone else including you, and has set tests and traps at the scene of each crime scene to stop you finding out who he is. You need to complete the puzzles he has left behind to get closer to him. At the end of each quiz you will get a clue as to who he is, such as where he lives, what his name is etc, and at the end of all the quizes, if you are smart enough to complete them, you will know enough about who he is to track him down and stop his evil plot.

At the end of each quiz you successfully complete, not only will you get a snippet of information as to who the evil villain really is, but you will get the location to the next place on the globe that is the location of his next intended crime scene, and you need to visit it to solve the next puzzle to continue to get closer to the evil mastermind and your ultimate goad of stopping him.

The locations of the puzzles you need to complete are located all over the world. There will be a main puzzle at each location (you will click upon an certain objects at each location to make the puzzle pop u) that you need to solve, along with other small animations to keep one entertained. Each puzzle will teach you or the child something important about technology, the internet, or internet safety that they need to know.

Technology and the world wide web has become such a dominant and large part of our lives, that the sooner kids learn about the uses and benefits of these things the better. I would like to create a fun adventure game that introduces children to technology terms, and the benefits and uses of the internet today. I will use elements that can be found in online communities and forums such as facebook. I will introduce the uses, benefits and navigation of these environments that can now be found on the web. I would also like to try to teach kids about safety and privacy on the internet, and show the down side of this technology as well.

This is an online virtual world and community everyone can join. Upon joining the website, you may create or adopt a pet, and choose from a wide range of fantasy type characters. With your new pet, you may personalise your pet (change its appearance, buy or win it toys and weapons etc), play with and feed it, play online games with it and fight against other people and their pets. An online world called Neopia exists, and you can roam around the virtual globe by clicking on different areas and going to different geographical regions. Within these various regions are various games you may play to win points. With your points you may buy things for your pet. There is even an online newspaper from the world of Neopia that you can read.

As the games in these virtual worlds vary in difficulty level (most games you set the difficulty level at the beginning of the game), and age target, they are many children and adult members. Different events happen at different times of the day, and new games and characters are constantly being added to keep people interested. Trophies and points are awarded as an extra incentive to keep playing the games. The games vary from classic arcade games to shooting, educational, and build up your own business type games.

There is no end to this game, and each game can be played at any time, as many times as one likes. Certain games such as scratch cards however cost you, so the number of times you can play them is determined by your budget. To play the game you use your adopted pet. You only see your pet when you go into the section where you can pet and play with it, and the rest of the time you navigate through the site with your mouse pointer. When you play certain games within Neopia, you temporarily become the characters in those games.

Game precident 1-The Island of Dr. Brain

In the Island of Doctor Brain, you will have to assist Dr. Brain in retrieving a battery for one of his experiments - the plans for which were stolen by Dr. Brain's archrival scientist. In order retrieve the battery you will have to go around the Island of Dr. Brain to find it, solving a puzzles along the way. The games vary in difficulty, and as the game is an puzzle-solving, educational, adventure game, the games vary in subject from English, maths, science and art, all cleverly disguised that the child will not even realise they are learning!

This game was released in 1992, and was the sequel to the Castle of Doctor Brain. After these games however, although here were two more games in the series, the direction of the games changed slightly, and became more puzzle orientated rather that one having a mystery to solve. The order in which the puzzles no longer became important, although there was still an underlying plot. In this game you start out at the entrance to a cave, which is the entrance to the island of Dr. Brain. The plot is revealed to you slowly throughout the game. You set the difficulty level before you begin the game, and hints are available to you along the way if you need them.

Each part of the island looks completely different to the next. You never see yourself or any part of your body, you are merely the mouse pointer. You click on certain objects to open up each game, and once you complete all the games in that area, a doorway will open so that you may go through it to the next part of the island. It is not possible to move on to the next part of the island until all the puzzles in that particular section of the island have been completed.

The graphics are 2D, but appealings as they are so fun and colourful. They are also highly detailed for the time in which they were made. I believe it would be possible to created a game such as this in flash.

Project2-Game Precidents

My favourite games as a child were always educational adventure games. Of course, at the time, I did not realise I was learning important skills as I was having fun. One of the games that had the biggest impact on me, was the Island of Dr. Brain. This was an educational adventure game targeted at children. As I believe computer games are one of the best ways for children to learn while having fun, and such games had such a large impact on my childhood, I would like to create a fun and educational game for the children of today.

I have thus investigated my all time favourite game of Dr. Brain’s Island. A more recent and modern approach to that of gaming for younger children, to both teach and entertain them, is www.neopets.com. Although this virtual world has also appealed to adults, and has more than just educational games, the way it has been created as a virtual world on the internet, making use of gaming, and interaction with other people, and personlizing ones own character, makes this game is a great game for today’s children to idle away their time. Since I love the educational and adventure/fantasy aspect of both these games, I would like to create an educational game for children where they are taken on an adventure through a fantasy world while learning at the same time. The difference in my game to that of Dr.Brain however, is my game will be targeted toward todays youth, and what is important for kids to learn nowadays. I have summarised below the main characteristics of these games that I enjoyed and will use as a starting point of my game, and what helps to make them so great.

My character is a lycanthrope. It is a merge between myself and a domestic house cat. I wanted to put some of myself into the character, and mix my image with my favourite animal. I also feel if I were to compare my visual appearance to any animal, it would be a cat.

My character will be a mythical guide in a utopian world. The world will be an educational environment where children can go to have fun, but learn something at the same time.
